The most beautiful emotion we can experience is the mysterious.

It is the most essential emotion at the cradle of all through art and science. For those for who this emotion is a stranger, the one who no longer can wonder around and be astonished and feel a lot of awe, is as good as dead, a blown out candle. To realize what can be experienced behind everything, something we can not reason, of which beauty reaches us only indirect: that’s religion. In that sense, and only in that sense, I am a deep religious human being.
When sorting out my over 10.000 slides and scanning them I discovered how many churches and mosques I have visited in my travels. The light is often low which emphasizes the architecture and also increases the religious atmosphere for me. It’s a feeling of being connected to a larger whole, but impossible to understand. It makes me connected to other human beings. I do not believe in a god but I believe everything in the universe and the earth has a relationship and I am connected to that.
